The research committee was set up to try to provide a co-ordinated approach to research and audit performed in the region.

The committes particular objectives include the pooling of resources within the district general hospitals to encourage research within these hospitals. It was also felt to be important to provide a focus for audit performed across the region.

The following work is presently being undertaken by the research committee:

  • cross-region audit of the outcome after ARDS
  • audit into the present policies and practice for tracheostomy
  • a multi-centre study into tracheostomy timing is presently starting

The committee meets twice a year and attempts to invite a delegate from each of the hospitals in the eastern area.
